Tour between nature and sea in the MEDITERRANEAN…A journey to discover the sea and its cetaceans in Liguria and the French Riviera.
Come with us on a discovery of the fauna of the seven seas and the history of their exploration through visits to wonderful aquariums and museums, and surprising the great cetaceans of the Mediterranean in their natural habitat, the Sanctuary of the Cetaceans with a fantastic cruise.
A voyage from Genoa to Antibes in the blue of the oceans in the name of the great explorers, such as Jacques Cousteau, who in the last century helped to make people love and respect the seas and above all to put an end to the extermination of the great cetaceans.
From the great ships of Genoa, the aquariums of Monaco and Genoa to the Dolphinarium of Antibes: You will learn all about life on and under the water, but above all you will learn to love the whales, killer whales, dolphins, seals, turtles and the thousands of varieties of multicoloured fish that inhabit our seas.
EXPERIENTIAL PACKAGE
“TOUR THROUGH NATURE AND SEA IN THE MEDITERRANEAN”
(4 days – 3 nights)
DAY 1
Arrival in the late afternoon in Sanremo and check-in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 2
Late morning transfer to the port of Sanremo for boarding a motorboat, where—accompanied by a marine biologist—you’ll set off on this exciting journey* of about 6 hours in search of whales, sperm whales, and dolphins. The “Pelagos Sanctuary for Mediterranean Marine Mammals” covers the stretch of sea between Liguria, Elba, and Corsica, and was established in 1993 by Italy, France, and the Principality of Monaco. It stands as proof of the international importance this phenomenon has reached in recent years and aims to protect the over 2,000 cetaceans of eight different species inhabiting the Ligurian Sea.
*Whale watching excursions are subject to sea conditions and may be cancelled at short notice. The excursion can generally be rescheduled for the following day, weather permitting. Alternatively, you will have the option to visit the large Marineland dolphinarium in Antibes.
Return to the hotel, dinner, and overnight stay.
DAY 3
In the morning, transfer to Antibes to visit Marineland, the largest dolphinarium in Europe and one of the world’s leading cetacean research centers. Be amazed by the shows featuring orcas, dolphins, walruses, and sea lions, trained by the center’s expert staff. A true celebration for adults and especially children!
Knowing French is not essential to enjoy the culinary delights: at lunchtime, indulge in the refined specialties of local restaurants.
In the afternoon, transfer to Monte Carlo to visit the famous Oceanographic Museum. Inaugurated in 1910 by its founder, Prince Albert I, this exceptional museum dedicated to marine sciences hosts numerous marine species, ship models, and equipment used by early ocean explorers. In the basement, the Aquarium offers visitors the fascinating sight of vibrant marine flora and fauna. The rarest and most colorful species from distant seas swim in 90 tanks, fed directly by seawater.
Return to the hotel, dinner, and overnight stay.
DAY 4
In the morning, transfer to Liguria’s capital for a visit to the renowned Genoa Aquarium. Fifty-nine tanks containing four million liters of water spectacularly recreate the habitats of the Mediterranean, oceans, polar regions, and tropics, hosting and enabling the reproduction of more than 500 species of fish, marine mammals, and amphibians. A suspended walkway over a striking water landscape leads you into the world of seals, and in another area, you’ll be able to get close to and even touch elegant manta rays.
The tour continues with a journey through time at the Galata Sea Museum, where you can experience the history of maritime civilization and navigation from the Middle Ages to the present day. Seventeen grand halls, with spectacular reconstructions of ships and sailors’ environments, bring the past to life like a time machine, revealing the people, stories, and daily life on board.
At the end of the visit, departure for your place of origin.
