ExPERIENTIAL PACKAGE

“DIVINE LIGURIA: TOUR FROM THE FIVE LANDS TO SANREMO”

(5 days – 4 nights)

1° DAY

Late afternoon arrival in the chosen location on the Riviera di Levante and accommodation in hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

2° DAY: A treasure called Five Terre

The scents and intense colours of the Cinque Terre await you to explore the mostsuggestive and romantic places on the Riviera di Levante.

After breakfast, an enthusiastic excursion awaits you in the marvellous Five Lands where you can admire the entire coastline of one of the most beautiful areas of the Riviera di Levante and wander through its villages: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore.

First stop in the delightful village of Monterosso al mare, a village on the edge of hills planted with vines and olive trees. The vegetation surrounds the village like an embrace. Its beautiful beaches, the marvellous peak cliffs and the crystal clear waters of the sea make this village one of the most welcoming on the Ligurian Riviera. The medieval Aurora tower, located on the Capuchin Hill, separates the old town from the modern one. In the church of San Francesco there are works of art of considerable importance including the Crucifixion attributed by many to Van Dyck.

Free lunch with the possibility of enjoying the specialities served in one of the many characteristic restaurants, strictly accompanied by the famous Cinque Terre doc wine.

In the afternoon you can discover one by one the other seaside villages by train, boat or on foot along the spectacular sentiero sheer drop on the sea, which in the most famous part is called the Via dell’amore. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

3° DAY: Portofino and Sanremo: old-world charm

Driving along the Riviera di Ponente to discover the treasures of Portofino and Sanremo. An intense experience to be enjoyed in contact with the sun and the sea.

After breakfast, depart for Portofino for an unforgettable excursion to the most exclusive fishing village, as well as the most elegant and secluded living room in Liguria, surprisingly varied in its colours and panorama squeezed between the natural park of Mount Portofino and the Gulf of Tigullio.

Visit to the imposing and scenic Stronghold of San Giorgio, also known as Brown Castle. The castle, built in 1554, is surrounded by a Mediterranean garden full of flowers, rose gardens and pergolas. The elevated position of this site, which controls the entrance to the inlet, has always conditioned its use for military purposes.

Free lunch break with the possibility of tasting the most ancient flavours of a cuisine rich in maritime tradition.

In the afternoon boat trip from Portofino to the bay of San Fruttuoso, a small fishing village where it is interesting to visit the abbey complex and the 16th century Torre dei Doria. The abbey belonged to the Doria-Panphili family for many centuries: in 1986 it was donated to FAI, which took care of its restoration and reopening to the public. At the end of the visit return by boat to Portofino.

Transfer to Sanremo in the late afternoon and accommodation in hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

4° DAY: Sanremo, the city of flowers

A unique day to spend among the city’s most important residences, surrounded by wonderful gardens in bloom.

Your visit will begin in the east of the city to visit Villa Ormond. Built by the Rambaldi family of San Remo, the villa was sold to the Ormond family of Paris in 1887. The recently restored park was then modelled on the French style of the late 19th century. The plants that colour the garden come from all over the world: from the Canary Islands to Japan, from Tasmania to China, from California to Brazil.

In the immediate vicinity it will also be possible to visit the garden and interiors of Villa Nobel. The villa was the last residence of the Swedish scientist Alfred Nobel and is surrounded by a beautiful park with a rich collection of pavilions and ornamental statues. Recently it was fully restored and transformed into museum: it will be possible to visit a collection of the scientist’s memorabilia and equipment, his laboratory and the flat where he wrote the famous will that gave rise to the prize of the same name.

For lunch you can enjoy Ligurian specialities in the city’s typical trattorias or, if you prefer, you can choose one of the many restaurants with international cuisine.

In the afternoon, visit the precious centre of Sanremo: the Pigna. Dear to Italo Calvino, who recounted it in The Spider’s Nest Trail, la Pigna still preserves the fascination of the ancient medieval village and allows the most attentive tourist to discover a new Sanremo, made up of winding alleys and stairways, arches and buttresses, secluded and quiet little squares. The Sanctuary of the Madonna of the Coast, protector of sailors, built at the very top of the old town, dominates a spectacular panorama.

Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

5° DAY

After breakfast, you will have the opportunity to discover the most touristy and splendid part of the city of flowers: the elegant promenade Empress promenade, with monuments to Garibaldi and the Empress of Russia Maria Alexandrovna and the famous Spring statue, then the Russian Church Orthodox with its Byzantine mosaics and the elegant Matteotti Street, a true designer shopping paradise.

Free lunch and return to the place of origin.
